Again this summer we are working with the United Way of West Central Minnesota to provide breakfast to the Growmobile kids and weekend backpacks to the Summer Feeding participants. This partnership is in its 6th year. We look to increase our outreach next year by expanding the Summer Feeding program. Too many kids go hungry in the summer due to not receiving reduced/free breakfast/lunch when they are not in school. For many families they are already stretched and having to provide an additional 10 meals a week per child can really become a burden.

Second Harvest Heartland Second Harvest Heartland works to reinvent hunger relief through leadership and innovation. As the Upper Midwest’s largest hunger relief organization, our goal is not only to help our hungry neighbors today, but to provide the means for everyone to be fed tomorrow. We’re known for distributing great amounts of food quickly and efficiently; in 2010 alone, we collected, warehoused and distributed nearly 60 million pounds of food—but we’re also constantly pioneering ways to reduce waste and better use the abundant resources available in this land of plenty.
Hunger Solutions Minnesota
Dedicated to Ending Hunger - Hunger Solutions Minnesota is a comprehensive hunger relief organization that works to end hunger in Minnesota. We take action to assure food security for all Minnesotans by supporting agencies that provide food to those in need, advancing sound public policy, and guiding grassroots advocacy.
Hunger Free Minnesota
Our first goal is to close the 100 million meal gap identified in the Map the Meal Gap study. To create a framework toward closing this gap, Hunger-Free Minnesota hired The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), a global leader in providing strategic and operational solutions to corporate and not-for-profit organizations, to develop initiatives that would close the gap in three years. BCG determined that there is enough food within Minnesota to close our missing meals gap on an annual and sustainable basis. JOIN THE MOVEMNET!
Minnesota FoodShare
Each March, Minnesota FoodShare directs the March Campaign, the largest food drive in the state and restocks 300 food shelves across Minnesota. It recruits thousands of congregations, companies, schools and civic groups to run local food and fund drives to aid in the effort.
How We Do It:
Minnesota FoodShare organizes a statewide media campaign to promote food shelf donations. It produces and distributes free promotional and educational resources for food drive organizers. It acts as a clearinghouse for cash donations and distributes the funds to participating Minnesota food shelves. Throughout the year, Minnesota FoodShare advocates on behalf of hungry Minnesota families with both state and federal lawmakers and educates the public about hunger in Minnesota.
