What types of products does the Willmar Area Food Shelf offer?

Not only does WAFS provide households with enough food for 3 to 4 days (3 meals a day including snacks), but we also provide basic toiletry products for those in need.

Who is eligible for services?

Anyone that is a resident of Kandiyohi County and meets the income guidelines.  If you qualify for government assistance, regardless of whether you accept the assistance or not, you meet the income guidelines and we can help you.

How can I obtain services from the Willmar Area Food Shelf?

We have made it very simple to obtain assistance from WAFS.  All you need to do is come in and complete a form to get registered as a client.

What do I need to bring with me when I come in?

When you come into the Willmar Area Food Shelf, you will need to provide proof of residence (This can be in the form of a bill or any other type of mail).  You will also need to provide identification for all members of your household (birth certificates, social security cards, or government issued ID cards).  For those under the age of 18 years of age, a school ID is acceptable.

All client information is updated annually. Clients are asked to bring their own bags or boxes to take their groceries home.

What is the charge for the services provided by Willmar Area Food Shelf?

There is no charge for our services, we are a non-profit agency and provide these services to those in need through the donations and support of the community and our business partners.

How long will it take when I come into the Willmar Area Food Shelf?

It normally takes between 15 and 25 minutes from the time that you arrive at the Willmar Area Food Shelf to the time that you leave with your groceries.

How often can I use the Willmar Area Food Shelf's services?

We are able to provide each of our clients with assistance 1 time a month, if needed.
